EU MDR: What Medical Device Manufacturers Must Prepare in 2027

Technical documentation, clinical evaluation and post-market surveillance requirements that will shape device approvals next year.
The European Medical Device Regulation continues to reshape how manufacturers document, certify and monitor their devices. For 2027, three areas demand the most attention from regulatory teams.
1. Clinical evaluation. Notified bodies expect clinical evaluation reports to be continuously updated, with clear evidence for equivalence claims and literature review methodology.
2. Post-market surveillance. The PMS plan, periodic safety update reports and trend analysis must be documented and traceable to real complaint data.
3. Supply chain traceability. Economic operators, importers and distributors must be registered and their responsibilities documented across the distribution chain.
Manufacturers that treat documentation as a continuous process rather than a submission exercise move through notified body reviews considerably faster.
